Convention season means catching up with listeners, fellow podcasters and trying to hash out some big ideas brought up by Star Trek. This episode, we invite you to listen to the panel at San Diego Comic Con presented by Larry Nemecek, “Is utopian Star Trek passé”? In the last fifty years, has Star Trek lost its idealistic roots? If so, is that a function of the writers or audience expectation? And what does utopia look like anyway?

Our old friend William T. Riker stops by Deep Space Nine during leave, but he's not acting like himself. In fact, he's not himself - he's Thomas Riker, Will's transporter clone. Thomas is on a mission to steal the Defiant in the name of the Maquis and challenge the Cardassians in the demilitarized zone. Is the mission about policy though, or is it about ego? We put Defiant into this week's Mission Log.

From out of nowhere, the idyllic planet Meridian emerges for just a few days every 60 years. How lucky that the Defiant shows up to say hello! One of the locals, Deral, is totally intrigued by Dax - and her spots. Dax meets Mr. Right. Back on DS9, Kira’s Mr. Right Now will not take a hint. True love and deepfakes when Mission Log goes to Meridian.

Back when Deep Space 9 was Terok Nor, the Cardassians laid out a series of deadly countermeasures in case there was a Bajoran uprising. All of those failsafes are now, uh, failing, which traps the DS9 crew and Gul Dukat himself in a station that will soon self destruct. Civil Defense goes into the Mission Log.
